The data set contains examples of the Swedish double object construction (e.g. ge ngn ngt 'give sb. sth.', visa ngn ngt 'show sb. sth.') and semantically equivalent prepositional object constructions with the prepositions till (e.g. ge ngt till ngn 'give sth. to sb.'), åt (e.g. ge ngt åt ngn 'give sth. to sb.') and för (e.g. visa ngt för ngn 'show sth. to sb.'). The data set was originally compiled for a study (Valdeson 2021) examining the use of the Swedish double object construction (the DOC) and the three prepositional object constructions (POCs) between 1800 and 2016. The data were collected from the National Language Bank of Sweden (Nationella SprŒkbanken). More specifically, the data are from the corpora listed below.

Svensk prosafiktion https://spraakbanken.gu.se/resurser/spf
Bonniersromaner 1976Ð77 https://spraakbanken.gu.se/resurser/romi
Bonniersromaner 1980Ð81 https://spraakbanken.gu.se/resurser/romii
Norstedtsromaner 1999 https://spraakbanken.gu.se/resurser/rom99
Bloggmix 2016 https://spraakbanken.gu.se/resurser/bloggmix2016

The blog data contain duplicates, i.e. the exact same sentence can occur several times in the corpus. In the file Data Ditransitives in Swedish, these duplicates are not included in the first spreadsheet, which contains the full context of the sentences. The second spreadsheet contains all the duplicates from the blog data, but without the full context.

The rest of the files contain lists of verb frequencies in the DOC and the POCs. For the blog data, frequencies are given both with the duplicates included and without the duplicates included. The file that contains information on verb frequencies in the DOC also contains the full results from the collexeme analysis presented in Valdeson (2021). There is also a separate file containing the full results of the distinctive-collexeme analyses comparing the DOC and the three POCs (see Valdeson 2021).
