README: Hearing, Tympanometry and Noise Data from Swedish Preschools (ANONYMISED)

Description
This dataset contains anonymised measurements of auditory function and environmental sound exposure from children attending preschools in Sweden. The data include:

Pressurised Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emissions pDPOAE)

Sound level metrics derived from personal dosimetry

No tympanometry data are included in the shared dataset. However, tympanometric screening was used as a quality control criterion to determine whether DPOAE measurements were retained.

The dataset has been stripped of all personal identifiers and complies with anonymisation and ethical data sharing requirements according to Swedish national guidelines (SND Kravbeskrivning v3.0, 2021).

Variables
See the accompanying Codebook_Preschool_Hearing_Noise.xlsx for detailed definitions, units, and coding for all variables.

Data Collection Protocols
Hearing (DPOAE / pDPOAE)
Device: Interacoustics Titan

Stimulus parameters:

f2 primary tone with f2/f1 = 1.22

Levels: 65/55 dB SPL
Frequencies: 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 kHz (both ears)
Measurement schedule: Twice daily (morning and afternoon) on two separate days (start and end of preschool week)
Inclusion criteria for amplitude data: Tympanometry within –150 to +50 daPa, ≥80% measurement reliability, amplitude > –10 dB SPL, SNR > 6 dB

Sound Measurements
Device: Svantek SV104 personal dosimeter
Placement: Worn by children during preschool hours
Metrics used:
LAeqTi (A-weighted equivalent continuous sound level)
LAFmax95 (95th percentile of maximum A-weighted SPL)

Resolution and timing: Defined measurement intervals per session
